When it comes to sports, Las Vegas is more than just a good city to place a bet. After an overdose of fanfare and hype, the Golden Knights are taking to the ice as not only the latest NHL expansion franchise, but also the first major league sports team in Las Vegas history. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. All signs point to Las Vegas becoming a true sports town.

The home base of the Vegas Golden Knights is in the heart of the Strip at the T-Mobile Area. The team has entered the preseason and after a few games on the road, will play at home for the first time on Tuesday, September 26, against the Los Angeles Kings. The arena is incredibly convenient with parking, shops, restaurants, bars and betting at the nearby Park MGM and New York-New York resorts. Celebrate after a win at The Park outdoor promenade that’s just outside the arena.

The deal is finalized and the Oakland Raiders will relocate to Las Vegas - possibly as soon as 2019. Vegas will welcome its first NFL team with a brand new state-of-the-art stadium just west of the Strip near Mandalay Bay. The new venue could also encourage a much needed expansion of the Las Vegas Monorail. Details are still being worked out, but the Raiders may arrive early and play a season or two at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium in the east valley.

Downtown is getting in on the action too. Cashman Field will welcome the Las Vegas Lights Football Club in 2018. Part of the United Soccer League, the team’s name was actually decided on by a vote of more than 10,000 fans.

Combat Sports

Las Vegas has long been home to the biggest fights in history, whether it’s legendary boxing battles featuring Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson or the top stars in mixed martial arts. The Ultimate Fighting Championship is based in Vegas and recently opened a new corporate headquarters just off Interstate 215 in the southwest valley. The company also finalized a deal for the T-Mobile Arena to be its exclusive home for major events.
